Maratek and Evolved Extraction Offer End-to End Cannabis Processing

Maratek Plus Evolved

Maratek and Evolved Extraction Solutions are delighted to announce a partnership in which they will offer an end-to-end extraction solution for the cannabis processing industry.

When we look at cannabis processing, it is easy to see all the numerous steps and equipment required to produce a high-quality product.

Steps such as biomass refinement, extraction, decarboxylation, winterization, distillation, and isolation are all processes completed with different systems - usually from different suppliers. It is difficult for one company to support the entire extraction journey which is why Maratek and Evolved are excited to bring an all-Canadian partnership to the market to help simplify the extraction process.

In the words of Evolved’s Co-founder and CRO Matthew Erickson, “selection is our service” - and with Maratek sharing a similar desire for complete customer support, it makes sense for the two to join forces in a two-way distribution agreement to provide an end-to-end solution.

The EV-MASS and OERS systems are the gold-standard in extraction solutions within the cannabis industry.

Who are Evolved and Maratek?

Evolved

Evolved was founded and now operates out of the heart of cannabis agriculture country in British Columbia, Canada. The founders are well immersed in the cannabis industry, and one of the founders has run an extraction facility themselves.

It was clear that there was a gap in the industry for quality and consistent extraction equipment, which Evolved felt they could remedy.

Cannabis extracts in Canada are gaining considerable traction, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which further opened this newer market for extraction. Evolved also has a huge focus on customer support and satisfaction. They pride themselves on the inventory of equipment and parts they supply and offer great customer satisfaction and design support.

“Rooted in Canada to serve an emerging global marketplace, we equip leading licensed cannabis producers with customized processing configurations and provide on-going support through our large inventory of extraction parts, solvents and consumables.”

Maratek

Maratek brings a history of solvent recovery to the developing cannabis space. For over 50 years, Maratek has been engineering and manufacturing environmentally friendly, high-quality products that recycle solvents for the printing, coatings, automotive, aerospace, food, and paint industries.

Now, the company is using that experience to take the cannabis world by storm. Maratek’s strengths lie in the ethanol extraction processes and looks to limit solvent waste and increase efficiency. With a focus on engineering and innovation, Maratek is always looking for ways to partner with other manufacturers, to expand what is available to its customers.

The Maratek and Evolve partnership

This is a truly synergistic relationship that focuses on quality, efficiency, and reliability. Maratek and Evolved offer an end-to-end Canadian ethanol extraction solution, designed and manufactured in the great white north!

The partnership of Maratek and Evolved was born out of a project that both companies were contributing to in the cannabis space here in Canada. Since then, the two companies have worked together both in Canada and abroad in Columbia and are excited about more, new, projects in the works.

Evolved’s performance promise essentially states that they are not successful until the customer is successful, and they will do everything in their power to ensure success for the company. This mindset is echoed by Maratek’s vision to help our customers to automate, optimize and scale for increased innovation and decreased costs. Maratek’s equipment comes with the best support possible, with in-house engineers able to help with any issues encountered.

How the system works:

The extraction process can be configured several different ways to meet the unique requirements of their clients. The EV-MASS, EVolved – Modular Alcohol Separation System, provides a modular, purpose-built ethanol extraction platform that can be customized to meet unique requirements and align with scaling visions. This is complemented by a model of the OERS system, designed for ethanol recovery.

The process looks a little bit like this:

  1. 30 gallons of ethanol is chilled to -40C in under 30 minutes to reduce the amount of fats, waxes, and lipids picked up in the extraction process.
  2. Up to 30lbs of biomass, which is loaded into the centrifuge where the -40C ethanol is added, agitated and the extraction process happens in under 30 mins.
  3. The solution is filtered to remove the separated undesirables through a three-stage filtration process and carbon scrub for color remediation.
  4. Bulk and residual ethanol recovery is performed using the OERS system from Maratek.
  5. The solution is decarboxylated.
  6. The final output product from this process is winterized and decarboxylated oil which is ready for sale or post processing.

Evolved’s EV-MASS modular system was created to offer an easy-to-use straight forward system that offers an efficient extraction process that is easily scalable and delivers unmatched ROI.

This system is unique in its modular design which allows for customization to better suit the facility and the customer’s scaling goals. Once the extraction is complete, this system seamlessly pairs with Maratek’s automated solvent recovery system to offer a more efficient and cost-effective recovery of ethanol.

The EV-MASS/OERS system removes the need for separate winterization and decarboxylation systems and simplifies a six-step process into one streamlined system. With the addition of an ethanol recovery system, such as OERS, the system becomes a closed loop, ultimately saving on solvent and energy costs. With the continuous recovery system and simplified EV-MASS, labour costs can also be reduced since the processes are more automated.

Who the system works for:

Small and large producers both like to hear the words, “reduced costs and labour” and the customization of Evolved and Maratek’s systems allows for exactly that. The production capabilities of this system make it suitable for small- or large-scale cannabis and hemp extraction.

The EV-MASS system can process up to 600lbs a day of biomass and the OERS-C system can process between 100 to 40,000+ gallons of solvent per day. The scaling capabilities of these two systems allows for a world of possibilities.

Evolved and Maratek’s products integrate to form the EV-MASS CRYO Closed Loop, a closed-loop and turn-key extraction system that delivers the lowest cost of production and an affordable entry point into large scale production. Processing biomass into decarboxylated oil in one integrated system reduces costs of production, equipment and the production space required.

In conclusion, two Canadian companies, leveraging their individual expertise and industry know-how to create a world-class end-to-end cannabis processing solution that allows for seamless workflow, consistent results, and reliability that fosters continued success for their clients long into the future.

The Maratek and Evolved partnership is designed with customer needs in mind to limit the number of suppliers needed for extraction companies.

These systems will help to increase quality and quantity of oil produced and limit costs to contribute to an automated system for extraction. Evolved's vast extraction experience paired with Marateks extensive experience in solvent recovery is a perfect match!
